Butterfly Craft
You are going to be mesmorized by the easy,shaving cream marbling effect thisbutterfly craft makes! Eachbutterfly art for kids you make will have a different look depending on the colors you use in yourmarble painting with shaving cream. Thisbutterfly art for kids is perfect for a butterfly theme, spring theme, or zoo animals craft with kids from toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 students. My kids were begging to try thisshaving cream art projectagain and again and again!
Shaving Cream Crafts
All you need are a few simple materials to make this gorgeous project. We’ve seen theseshaving cream crafts floating around for a while, but I assumed it was either very complicated or very messy. Well, guess what – it’s NOT! This is truly a simple and easy-to-make beautiful butterfly craft kids can make themselves.
- cookie sheet or tray
- cheap, white shaving cream
- crayola acryllic paint (any colors or brand you want to use)
- craft stick or straw (to swirl the color)
- white paper
- scissors
- construction paper to use as a back drop, body, and antenae
Butterfly crafts for kids
Start by spraying shaving cream 1-2″ thick on a cookie sheet. Now drop blobs of acryllic paint on the shaving cream. You will probably want 3-4 complimentary colors that way you get beautiful in the middle color variations. We used warm colors like yellow, orange, red for one and cool colors such as purple, green, and blue for the other.
Painting with shaving cream
Now use a straw or craft stick and make swirl design so there is very little white showing and cool designs. You want to swirl enough to get little white and lots of cool patterns, but not so much that you mix the paint and end up with one big blob of color. You get the idea.
The first part is my favorite. I love seeing all the gorgeous color combinations as we mix the shaving cream and colors. I think I could do that all day LOL!
Butterfly Craft Idea
Now put piece of white paper on top and press lightly for 2-3 minute. Carefully pull off and use craft stick to whip off any extra or a paper towel to blot it up. Let it dry.
Shaving cream art projects
Now cut out the papers to make a butterfly shape. You can use this butterfly template if you need some help cutting out the right shape. THere are a couple of styles to choose from!
Butterfly art for kids
Once your butterfly has dried, carefully fold it in half so it looks like it is fluttering and affix the middle section to a background color construction paper or cardstock of your choice.
Marble painting with shaving cream
Make a strip of contrasting color construction paper for the body. You can use markers to add some details to the body.

You can use pipe cleaner or markers to make extra details. Isn’t that beautiful! i love all the different patterns, colors, and marbling affect! It is SO PRETTY!
